Pain in the face can have many causes.

Trigeminal neuralgia.

This is a nerve pain that can be intensely painful. The nerve has three branches on each side of the face; one in the direction from the side of the ear towards the forehead and over the eyes, one over the cheekbones and upper jaw and one to the lower jaw. The nerve has become hypersensitive and the pain is often provoked by regular use of facial muscles during, for example, eating and brushing teeth.

The pain often occurs on one side of the face. Here there are drugs that can help. If it is possible to find the specific reason why the nerve is irritated, such as a blood vessel irritating the nerve - an operation can help. The diagnosis is made by a doctor on the basis of the clinical picture.

Acute facial pain

may be due to an inflammation of the sinuses and should be investigated by a doctor, ENT specialist. But it could also have been triggered by cold, overexertion or stress.

Myopia / Farsightedness can lead to overstrained eye muscles, which can also cause facial pain.
